The \u201dimplant\u201d refers to the titanium post that is surgically placed in the jaw\u2014one of these can be placed in the hole left by a single missing tooth and a dental crown can be placed on top of it to finish off your smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Replacing Several Teeth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>But what if you\u2019re missing a few teeth? If the teeth are all in separate places across the mouth, it may be necessary to fill each gap with its own individual dental implant. In that case, you would need as many implants as you are missing teeth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, for teeth that are missing right next to each other, you could use an implant bridge. This involves placing just two dental implants on either side of a large gap, then placing a series of connected dental crowns (called a \u201cbridge\u201d) onto them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Replacing All of the Teeth on an Arch<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>What about people who are missing all of their teeth? For patients like these, even a dental bridge isn\u2019t going to cut it. Instead, they may need a set of implant dentures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the name suggests, these are just like regular dentures except, instead of attaching to the gums via suction, they\u2019re connected to a series of dental implants. It usually requires four dental implants to secure an upper or lower denture in place, which is why they\u2019re sometimes called \u201call-on-4\u201d dental implants.
