When you meet new people, one of the first traits they’ll notice is the condition of your smile. If you’re not happy with the way yours looks, it can leave you feeling less confident. There are 4 main cosmetic dental flaws that people face. As you continue reading, a local dentist explains how to overcome them!

#1 – Stained or Discolored Teeth

Teeth can become stained or discolored over time for several reasons. In some cases, it stems from the consumption of certain foods and beverages. Additionally, taking certain medications, aging and smoking can contribute to aesthetic issues. Unfortunately, brushing vigorously or more often won’t do much good.

There is still hope, though. With professional teeth whitening that uses high-powered whitening gels, stubborn stains can be lifted. Most patients are able to see their smile brightened by as much as eight shades.

In situations where the discoloration is more severe, porcelain veneers may be the better solution. The custom designed ceramic fixtures fit directly over the front-facing teeth to create a stain-free and natural looking smile.

#2 – Irregularly Shaped or Uneven Teeth

There can be several contributors to teeth becoming irregularly shaped. However, genetics and teeth grinding are the most common causes. In addition to porcelain veneer placement, there is the option of dental bonding.

The procedure, which only takes around an hour to complete, involves the dentist using composite resin material to build up the enamel and mold it into the perfect size and shape. The dentist will then use a special light to bond the material to leave you with a lasting and gorgeous new smile.

#3 – Cracked or Broken Tooth

If a tooth is severely cracked or broken, the dentist may suggest restoring it with a porcelain dental crown. However, if you only have a slight crack or break, either veneer placement or dental bonding may suffice to leave you with an attractive smile.

#4 – Crooked Teeth

The method used to fix crooked teeth will depend on the severity of the imperfection. For minor crookedness, veneers may work just fine. For more extreme cases, though, there is the option of using ClearCorrect or Invisalign. Both procedures utilize clear aligners to provide a discreet treatment process. Once your teeth are assessed, the dentist can make a recommendation as to which procedure is better suited to meet your smile needs.

No matter what type of aesthetic challenges you’re dealing with, there is a procedure available to help you experience the bliss of having a brand-new smile. To determine which route you’ll take, contact a local dentist to schedule a consultation!
